Weaving by Fiona

My hand woven alpaca textiles are all unique pieces, hand made in my home in rural New South Wales from our own small herd of Suri Alpaca. The process is mostly here on the farm – after shearing we clean the fleeces before sending them to a local mill where I have some carded into roving and some processed into a fine lace yarn. I then spin the roving, sometimes adding merino or the more readily available Huacaya Alpaca. I might also blend different colours together, and the yarn I may twine with silk or fine merino. Only then is it ready for weaving.
My works are all one of a kind pieces, that I design and create myself, drawing my design’s inspiration from the raw beauty of the Australian landscape and from the colours and textures of the fibres I am working with.
