Handwoven with alpaca, this soft, light, yet warm bolero is perfect to keep the evening chill off the shoulders and add elegance to your outfit.
I first hand dyed the suri yarn using a natural vegetable dye, creating a variegated dusky pink. Then I wove it onto an organic merino warp (those threads that are tensioned on the loom and make up the tassels at the hemline) . Once off the loom I have crocheted all around, adding a small panel of crochet at the sides to hold it gently together. The uneven hemline, short at the front and longer at the back, is flattering and adds a unique touch to your outfit
Suri is the softest of alpaca fibres. it’s a little heavier than wool and will drape elegantly around the body
Alpaca, a mix of both Huacaya and Suri breeds, makes this top incredibly soft and warm. Our alpaca products are truely sustainable with all fibre coming from either our own herd or those of a neighbouring farm. We clean the fleece of vegetable matter and select the best of the locks. Due to the fragile nature of the fibre we then send it to a local small scale mill, just a couple hundred kilometres away. Once they have cleaned, carded and spun it into the fine yarn, it is returned to us. We then weave this luxurious yarn as is, in its natural colour, or we gently dye it ourselves, using either natural or gentle non toxic dyes.
Alpaca fibre is resilient and will keep its shape and softness for years. Should you need to wash it, do so by hand only, squeezing out excess water by folding it in a towel and pressing down. Do not wring. Dry laid out flat. Not to be tumble dried. Iron with a cool iron, protecting it with a cotton or linen tea towel.
