Beautiful and soft, this shawl is pure 100% alpaca, it is wide so can be used as a shawl or wrap in the cool winter months and during the summer it will add textural detail to your bedroom or lounge room, draped casually over a comfy chair. Handwoven on my floor loom, this wide ladies wrap is made from our own suri alpaca yarn, the un dyed fawn & grey coming from our boys Coco & Prince.
Suri is the softest of alpaca fibres. it’s a little heavier than wool and will drape elegantly around the body – it’s warmer than wool too, so you will feel extra cosy on those cool days and chilly nights. The suppleness of the yarn means you can wear it equally well as a scarf, scrunching it up around your neck, or lay it wide over your shoulders, adding elegance to a beautiful evening dress. Or line up the midway point over one shoulder, throwing the length at the front casually over the other shoulder.
Our alpaca products are truely sustainable with the fibre coming from either our own herd or those of neighbouring farms. We clean the fleece of vegetable matter and select the best of the locks. Due to the fragile nature of the suri fibre we then send it to a local small scale mill, just a couple hundred kilometres away. Once they have cleaned, carded and spun it into the fine yarn, it is returned to us. We weave this luxurious yarn as is, in its natural colour, or we gently dye it ourselves, using either natural or gentle non toxic dyes. Sometimes we also add a fine silk, or recycled sari silk.
There may or may not be a shawl pin shown with the shawl. Please note it is not included. However, when I have them available they are listed as a seperate listing. They are made by a local ceramic artist Angela McCann. Please feel free to contact me regards current ones available as they do sell very quickly.
Alpaca fibre is resilient and this wrap will keep its shape and softness for years.
Should you need to wash it, do so by hand only, in warm soapy water, agitating as little as possible. Squeeze out excess water by folding it in a towel and pressing down. Do not wring. Dry laid out flat. Not to be tumble dried. Iron with a cool iron, protecting it with a cotton or linen tea towel.
