A soft & warm long tunic, perfect to keep the winter chill at bay
It is woven with natural white and hand dyed blue alpaca, the two pieces then crocheted together down the centre back. These tunics are wonderfully versatile. Throw them over a beautiful dress or your favorite pair of jeans before you head out the door. Or just for those 15 minutes of cold first thing in the morning. Cold neck and shoulders? Turn it around and drape it over your shoulders like a shawl. And in the summer, when it’s too hot to imagine wearing it, drape it over the lounge, or lay it across the spare bed for your visitors to enjoy. And of course it is perfect to travel with – clothing, shawl and blanket all rolled into one.
Suri is the softest of alpaca fibres. it’s a little warmer than wool and will drape elegantly around the body
Sustainably grown, processed and woven
Alpaca, a mix of both Huacaya and Suri breeds, makes this piece incredibly soft and warm. Our alpaca products are truely sustainable with all fibre coming from either our own herd or those of a neighbouring farm. We clean the fleece of vegetable matter and select the best of the locks. Due to the fragile nature of the fibre we then send it to a local small scale mill, just a couple hundred kilometres away. Once they have cleaned, carded and spun it into the fine yarn, it is returned to us. We then weave this luxurious yarn as is, in its natural colour, or we gently dye it ourselves, using either natural or gentle non toxic dyes. For this tunic we used a very fine local NSW wool for the warp, ensuring it keeps it’s shape and will last a lifetime.
Alpaca fibre is resilient and will keep its shape and softness for years. Should you need to wash it, do so by hand only, squeezing out excess water by folding it in a towel and pressing down. Do not wring. Dry laid out flat. Not to be tumble dried. Iron with a cool iron, protecting it with a cotton or linen tea towel.
