This pure alpaca wide wrap or shawl is hand woven and hand dyed. It is perfect as both a winter shawl or as a year round throw. When you’re not wearing it, this shawl looks stunning as a throw elegantly laying across the lounge or bed. Suri is the softest of alpaca fibres. it’s a little heavier than wool and will drape elegantly around the body – it’s warmer than wool too, and this shawl has a lovely winter thickness to it, so you will feel extra cosy on those cool days and chilly nights.
I have dyed the warp threads of this shawl with soft greys merging to coral. I have then woven it with undyed browns and whites. It is pure alpaca
Pure alpaca, a mix of both Huacaya and Suri breeds, makes this shawl incredibly soft and warm. Our alpaca products are truely sustainable with all fibre coming from either our own herd or those of a neighbouring farm. We clean the fleece of vegetable matter and select the best of the locks. Due to the fragile nature of the suri fibre we then send it to a local small scale mill, just a couple hundred kilometres away. Once they have cleaned, carded and spun it into the fine yarn, it is returned to us. We then weave this luxurious yarn as is, in its natural colour, or we gently dye it ourselves, using either natural or gentle non toxic dyes.
There may or may not be a shawl pin shown with the scarf. Please note it is not included. However, when I have them available they are listed as a seperate listing. They are made by a local ceramic artist Angela McCann. Please feel free to contact me regards current ones available as they do sell very quickly.
Alpaca fibre is resilient will keep its shape and softness for years.
Should you need to wash it, do so by hand only, squeezing out excess water by folding it in a towel and pressing down. Do not wring. Dry laid out flat. Not to be tumble dried. Iron with a cool iron, protecting it with a cotton or linen tea towel.
