I have woven this wall hanging on my saori loom with a black warp for background. I was at a bit of a standstill. Sometimes you can look at your choice of fibres and colours for too long and you go around in circles. So I asked my husband to choose two colours. He is always drawn to blue so I wasn’t surprised it came first. Next came yellow. With these two vibrant colours together, I knew something wonderful would happen. I think it did and I hope you do too.
Each thread is woven in with fingers or needle, slowly developing into a pattern all its own. As it takes on a life of its own, no two wall hangings are ever the same, even if I wanted to I don’t think it’d be possible. I start with a palette of colours, a faint idea of how I want these colours to move, and then I see what happens. Over time I have realised that it is this freedom of design that makes for better results.
As a miniature this wall hanging will bring colour and detail to those small areas of your home where, so often, we forget to embellish with colour and texture. Try it hung low over a hall table or on the end of a book shelf, or a series of them along your hallway or staircase.
It measures 15cm x 36cm and is hung from a 20cm bamboo rod
(6 inch x 14 inch & an 8 inch rod)
