A mix of undyed browns and white, with the pop of bright orange makes this wrap stand out in any decor. The warp (threads that are tensioned on the loom and go the length of the weave) is pure wool, while the weft (the threads we weave in and out of the warp) is handspun suri alpaca, twined with a fine wool. Due to the fragile nature of the suri fibre, I send the fleeces to a local mill, who card and wash it, ready for me to spin. After I have spun it on my mother’s old spinning wheel, I can finally start weaving it into a prepared warp. After it comes off the loom, the fringe is tied and the finished product is washed again, this is very important as it melds all the threads together and turns the piece from stiff and unyielding to soft, warm and enticing.
Suri is the softest of alpaca fibres. it’s a little heavier than wool and will drape elegantly around the body – it’s warmer than wool too, so you’ll feel extra cosy on those cool days and chilly nights.
When you’re not wearing it, this comforting wrap can be used as a throw, adding warmth and softness to any room in your home or while you travel.
Locally grown alpaca fibre and wool
This wrap measures 63cm x 185cm (excluding the fringe) (25in x 73in)
Alpaca fibre is resilient and this wrap will keep its shape and softness for years.
Should you need to wash it, do so by hand only, squeezing out excess water by folding it in a towel and pressing down. Do not wring. Dry laid out flat. Not to be tumble dried. Iron with a cool iron, protecting it with a cotton or linen tea towel.
