This ladies poncho is handwoven with a pure alpaca weft on a merino warp (the warp being the threads tensioned on the loom). The grey and white is un dyed alpaca comes from our own herd of suri alpacas, processed locally here in NSW. The details of corals and pinks are made up of wool, silk and alpaca.
Ponchos are warm, easy to wear and so versatile. Throw it on and head out the door, the alpaca fibre is perfect for keeping cooler temperatures at bay. This is a medium weight weave and would be perfect on those autumn days or cool summer evenings when there is a gentle breeze in the air.
Ponchos make versatile and comfortable maternity wear. And many new mothers also choose to wear a poncho both for the warmth and protection it provides while you carry your baby on your chest, but also for comfort, simplicity and privacy while nursing.
Our small herd of suri alpacas live here on our farm and I can watch them grazing contentedly from the window while I weave. Supplementary fibre comes from nearby farms, making our slow fashion products truely sustainable and ethical.
Alpaca fibre is resilient and this poncho will keep its shape and softness for years.
Should you need to wash it, do so by hand only, squeezing out excess water by folding it in a towel and pressing down. Do not wring. Not to be tumble dried. Iron with a cool iron, protecting it with a cotton or linen tea towel
